Comment: Great to see this website and the trust - I served on thew RN Hovercraft Unit in the mid-80's and have fond memories of both Daedalus and the Naval Hovercraft Unit in Hong Kong. Anybody want to chat about those times then please feel free to contact me - will be coming over to see the museum late next year (2012) Happy skimming, Les

Comment: I had a fascination with Hovercraft when I was at school and wrote to BHC in 1979 to request information. I received in return a letter from Mr R.L. Wheeler no less, together with brochures and technical papers, all of which I still have. Now, 32 years on, and a qualified Naval Architect, I find I am still fascinated by Hovercraft, so I'm very glad to find that the Museum is keeping them alive and that these magnificent pieces of engineering history are being preserved.

Comment: Oh my my my. Finally a museum where I can look at my favoured hovercraft. It was so said when they went out of service. So easy to get from calias to dover. I miss them very much. But now I can go look at them in your museum. Thank you very much.

Comment: I am interested in locating Sealand SH.2 004 GH-2026 which I understand was "refurbished and sent to the Yukon river where it is flying freight" ..
Having helped build the original craft at Millom in 1975 as an apprentice to Tony English the Chief Engineer. I lost my job that summer when Sealand got into financial difficulties.
Fortunately BHC came to the rescue and I spent the rest of the summer in EEL, helping run Algol programs on an ICL computer predicting skirt performance for the US 2KSES. Later testing the predictions on the Hoverlloyd's SR.N4 "Sure" as it crossed the channel. I quickly learned to avoid the bow ;-)

Comment: In 1964 as a young A.T.C. Cadet I and a Cadet friend of mine used to cadge flights on the SRN2,SRN3, SRM5 & SRN6 when we couldn't get a fixed-wing flight at nearby 781 Sqdn. Met Sir Cristopher Cockrell at the 1st International Hovercraft Exhibition at Stokes Bay in 1966? I was also on the SRN2 when it caught fire off RAF Thorney Island in 1965/6. Sad that as a nation we let all the R & D be taken over by others, just a pity that the politicians of the day lacked so much foresight. Keep up the good work Chaps, you're doing a grand job!

Comment: Lived in Gosport as boy and remember the hovercraft unit at Daedalus very well. Frequently had to stop at the slipway while hovercraft went across the road and down the slipway. Sad to see them go but just discovered the museum site ...had no idea it was there but will visit next time I'm "home"!
